the jack — the little wooden target ball you throw close to

to “point” — roll a boule to rest as near the jack as you can
Tirer
to “shoot” — hit an opponent’s boule head-on to knock it away

a perfect strike that blasts the target boule out and stops dead in its place
La mène
the end — one round, played until both sides run out of boules
Le rond
the throwing circle — keep both feet inside it as you throw
Un biberon
a boule left touching the jack (“the baby’s bottle”)
Mener · tenir
to “hold” — to have the boule nearest the jack right now
Plomber
to lob high so the boule lands dead with almost no roll
Faire Fanny
to lose 13–0 — a whitewash (by tradition, the loser kisses Fanny!)
